                              WHO ARE WE?
MECSU is a relatively new trade union established to commit itself to a democratic South Africa, which promotes economic participation, fair labour practices and is free from discrimination and oppression.

We believe that South Africa’s economic agenda can be achieved through fair labour practices and unity of the working class.

                                 OUR SCOPE
MECSU operates in local government and public sector including municipal, provincial and national government entities.

                                   OUR AIMS
● To improve working conditions for union members;
● To protect the interests of the members of the union;
● To improve employer- employee relations;
● To ensure stable employment for union members;
● To represent members in grievances and disciplinary proceedings;
● To provide legal assistance to union members in respect disputes arising from work;
● To secure better health and safety workplace environment;
● To improve economic demands of members by collectively bargaining for advanced working conditions;
● To educate members on financial management for them to leave within affordable means;
● To resist privatization and casualization of labour;
● To inculcate discipline, self-respect and dignity among members; and
● To ensure opportunities for training and promotion.
